In Love with the Mediterranean
Ceramics inspired by Ancient Greece
In the Arabia Museum’s gallery Fri 30.3. - Sat 27.5.2007

Design Museum presents ceramics from the Mediterranean in its Arabia museum gallery. A German born ceramic artist Katharina Bolesch and her husband Alexander Reichardt made their dream come true ten years ago as they started their own L’Olivier – workshop on the island of Naxos.

Katharina studied ceramics in the Germany city of Siegburg which is well-known for its high quality ceramic art. At the beginning of 1990’s she moved to Greece to the island of Naxos, where she had spent her childhood summers. She creates ceramics for everyday use: plates, bowls, pots and cups. She got inspiration from the wide forests of olive trees and the wine gardens as well as from the Mediterranean fish. Alexander also uses wood, marble and silver as materials in his work.

Katharina has gained respect in Greece and one of her works was exhibited at the Academy of Athens, in the Hellenic Folklore Research Center, during the Olympic Games 2004. Today Katharina Bolesch and Alexander Reichardt have a workshop, gallery and boutique in the village of Halki in Naxos. About 140 works are exhibited in the Arabia Museums gallery.
